The Group of Monuments at Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Karnataka, India. It includes the remains of the capital city of the Vijayanagara Empire, which was the last great Hindu kingdom. The site is known for its unique architecture and is a fascinating destination for exploring the region’s history.


 ● Monuments


■Virupaksha Temple: A striking temple with a triangular shape and mathematical patterns

■Yantradharaka Hanuman Temple: Also known as the Monkey Temple, this 500-year-old temple is located in a cave on top of Anjaneya Hill

■Stone Chariot: A chariot made of smaller stones that stands on two wheels and is pulled by two elephants .


 Architecture


Hampi’s architecture is known as Vijayanagara Architecture

The architecture includes arches, pillared halls, domes, and holes for mounting sculptures

Some structures combine Hindu and Islamic architectural styles, known as Indo-Saracenic architecture .

Hampi is a significant historical site that illustrates the vanished civilization of the Vijayanagara Empire

Hampi is also a religious center with the Virupaksha Temple and an active monastery .
