The Mysore Palace is a historic palace in Mysore, India, that was once the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty. It is also known as Amba Vilas Palace.


Description

The palace is located in the center of Mysore, facing the Chamundi Hills.

It is built in the Indo-Saracenic style.

The current structure was built between 1897 and 1912 by the English architect Henry Irwin.

The palace has square towers at the cardinal points, covered with domes.

The palace is known for its exquisite interiors.


History

The first palace on the site was built in the 14th century.

The palace was destroyed by lightning, fire, and Tipu Sultan.

The current palace is the fourth reconstruction.


Significance

The palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions in India.

Mysore is known as the “City of Palaces” because of the many palaces in the city.
