THE SHALIMAR GARDENS
Shalimar Gardens are Mughal gardens in India and Pakistan that are known for their water features, pavilions, and terraced layouts . The name “Shalimar” comes from Sanskrit and means “Adobe of Love”.
Shalimar Bagh, Srinagar :
Built in 1619 by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan
Located on the right bank of Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir
A public park that is considered a pinnacle of Mughal horticulture
The garden has three terraces, each with fountains and chinar trees
The main water channel, called the Shah Nahar, runs through all three terraces
The garden is connected to the lake by a canal

Built in 1641–1642 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan
A UNESCO World Heritage Site
The garden is arranged in three terraces with pavilions, poplar and cypress trees, and basins of water
The garden is enclosed by a crenellated wall of red sandstone
