THE INDIA GATE
India Gate is a war memorial in New Delhi, India that honors the soldiers who died fighting in World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War:
●Location: Located in central New Delhi, near the Rajpath (now called Kartavya path)
●Design: A 42-meter high red sandstone archway similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France
●History: Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, construction began in February 1921 and was completed in February 1931
●Significance: A memorial to 74,187 soldiers, with over 13,000 names engraved on it
●Activities: A popular gathering place for protests and demonstrations, and a venue for celebrations like New Year’s Day and Indian Republic Day
●Accessibility: Free to visit, and no appointment or ticket is required
●Atmosphere: A place for relaxation and reflection, with green lawns on either side of the archway
